CN Rail has tentatively scheduled its rehabilitation work at the railway tracks on Secondary Highway 854 (Ryley) for Thursday, June 27, 2019.  Work will begin at 5 pm with estimated completion at midnight. This schedule is subject to change.
Please use the posted detour route via Range Road 171 and Township Road 500.

Scope and duration of work

CN Rail will be doing a rehab and repair to the crossings at both 56 Street and Secondary 854 at the same time. They will be taking out the old track and replacing it. We will be detouring the travelling public since there will be open excavation.

The affected area is North of Highway 14 on Secondary 854 east of Ryley, as well as 56th St, on the west end of Ryley

Available sight distance

This is on a stretch of highway with excellent visibility and no curves but directly off Highway 14.

Grade-line of highway

There is minimal grade to the Highway and all adjacent lands.

The use of only those Traffic Control devices which are necessary to clearly warn, advise and control the traffic.

We will only be detouring vehicles while CN replaces the faulty track for one day. Appropriate signage will be placed on the highway and as per attached signing diagram. Certified ATTC person will be on site at all times.

Speed limits must be appropriate for the conditions. When reductions in speed are necessary, the speed must be reduced over a reasonable distance

The posted speed limit on Highway 854 in the affected area is 100 kilometres per hour.

The provision of a buffer between traffic and workers whenever possible

The buffer will be required since they will be working on the road.

OHS legislature pertaining to clothing, hardhats, etc., to be worn by workers

All TCPs wear high vis yellow from head to toe, hard hats, steel toes approved footwear and eyewear appropriate for the conditions.

Weather conditions (dust, rain or snow)

It is on a paved highway. We could be dealing with sun, snow, wind.

We are equipped to deal with it all and will only be on the highway if the visibility allows.

Site specific safety issues

There are no site-specific safety concerns beyond normal recommended practices. A safety meeting every morning before the commencement of work to make sure everyone is on board with the hospital location and to discuss safety issues that may arise.
