< Back to Road Matters & More
Beginning approximately June 22, 2020 (weather permitting) road construction will begin in Bruce on the following: (Due to rain delays this project will begin in early July)
- 1st ave between Queen and Main streets
- Queen street between 1st and 2nd ave
- 2nd ave between Hwy 857 and Main street
These roads will be upgraded from an oiled surfaces to an all-weather hard surfaced roads. This involves stabilizing the road base with soil cement before applying two coats of “chip seal”. While this process is much different from the process to pave a road with asphalt, the end result will seem similar to residents and the travelling public resulting in a road that is not dusty when it is dry, nor muddy when it is wet.
During this time, the road may be closed to allow crews to work safely; however, access for locals will be maintained during construction however, they may experience delays. There are potential hazards to the public and vehicles during the construction process. This can include heavy machinery, dust or mud, road material such as gravel, asphalt coatings and rock chips.
In order to comply with social distancing recommendations and to ensure the safety of our contractors and crews, the cement trucks will begin arriving on site around 2am in order to finish their delivery before County crews arrive to continue work.
Thank-you for your patience and understanding during construction. If you have any questions, please call the Beaver County Service centre at 780-663-3730.
