From bulls to billets: a wild weekend for nursing and medicine students in Tofield…Organizers of the Tofield, Ryley and Beaver County skills weekend arranged an action packed weekend for the 36 students from the University of Alberta.

Sure, they received hands on training at six different skill stations, including suturing, IV starts, airway management, casting, spinal immobilization and rural trauma simulation. It was the type of training that will prove invaluable later when they start their careers.

What they didn't expect was how much fun there can be on a weekend in Tofield. From a pyro infused bull bash, to paint ball, a wiener roast at Islet Lake, darts and a delicious cappuccino at the Moonshine Cafe.

For the first time ever at an RhPAP skills event, the students stayed with billets instead of a hotel.

The weekend left a favourable impression with the students on how exciting practising health care in rural Alberta can be, and how welcoming rural people are.
