Staying Safe on Roadways this Harvest Season

Posted on

With harvest upon us our roadways will be busy with heavy farm equipment. Here are a few tips to keep in mind when travelling this harvest season:

  • Farm equipment moves slower than regular vehicles. We all know it is easy to get impatient, but only pass when it is safe to do so. The same rules apply as when passing other motor vehicles, like never passing on a solid center line or a corner.
  • Leave plenty of space between you and the machinery when travelling behind, as potential debris may fly off unexpectedly. This also helps with assessing when it is safe to pass. If you can't see the operator, they can't see you and may not know you are there.
  • Farmers have just as much of a right to be on the road as regular vehicles. Remember to slow down, have patience, and stay alert when travelling especially in rural areas during this time of year.

Road safety is everyone's responsibility, and it is important that we all help each other reach the same goal of arriving home safely.

Happy Harvest!
